Moving forward
There are a range of ways to solve the issue of the potential 2030 ban on dine-in supply of single-use plastic consumer-portion packaging.
Solutions may include:
Introducing an ‘innovation window’ - giving packaging suppliers more time to complete development of innovative plastic-free solutions for consumer-portion packaging.
Limiting the scope of ban to packaging of foodstuffs that are hardest to deliver via new / innovative packaging.
Reviewing definitions to allow some use of innovative plastics - such as biodegradable or compostable plastics.
As our Coalition progresses, we will work with policymakers and others to discuss the issues and develop more detailed approaches to the issue and find a pragmatic solution that works for consumers, businesses and the environment.
