Great things come in small packages.
Each day, millions of Europeans and visitors go to restaurants, cafés, canteens, and other food outlets. Whether they’re eating breakfast, lunch, dinner, or just a snack, a sauce, spread or other condiment can elevate a simple food or meal into a delicious experience.

Consumer-portion packaging delivers a range of sauces, condiments, preserves, and other complementary foods in an easy-to-use way: safe, convenient, fresh, of consistent quality, sanitary, and without mess.

Read the evidence

Despite the advantages of consumer-portion packaging, its continued use under threat as Europe’s new packaging laws come into effect from 2030, banning single-use plastic packaging for dine-in customers.

That’s why companies and associations have come together to form the Consumer-Portion Packaging Innovation Coalition – CPIC.

Based on the evidence set out in an independent report on the issue, and the expertise of our members, we are calling on the Commission to take a pragmatic approach to the Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

In line with goals of competitiveness and simplification, we believe the Commission should ‘stop the clock’ on the 2030 ban and allow a rethink.

CPIC members are working to develop effective, scalable PPWR-compliant packaging for consumer portions.

We want to ensure that industry innovation is incentivised, rather than proceeding with a blanket ban on many current consumer-portion formats from 2030 onwards.

With more time, we believe that a solution is possible: one that works for consumers, businesses, and the environment.

We’re ready to work with decision-makers to bring this answer to life.
